Social Justice Work Group

How does race, power and privilege impact our work with students and colleagues?

Whites on Whiteness (WoW) is a social justice work group at Highline that offers opportunities for staff and faculty to examine the impact of our social identities on our work at Highline and deepen our commitment and effectiveness at dismantling white supremacy at Highline and beyond.

A variety of topics are covered including: White Silence, White Supremacy Culture, Disruption and Dismantling of Institutional Racism, and more.  We believe that in a system that privileges whiteness, it is white folks duty to develop the skills necessary to investigate our own roles in perpetuating and upholding white supremacy and be accountable for our actions and inaction. Regardless of where you are in understanding whiteness (privilege, power, etc) and systemic racism, our hope is that this group can build community to allow for growth and a deepening of understanding and accountability through reading articles, engaging in activities and discussing situations in the workplace and beyond.
